Mother Mary Veronica was born Sophie Leeves and was the daughter of an English chaplain posted at the British Embassy in Constantinopole.she was led by an inner call first to the Catholic faith in 1850 and to the Religious Life in the following year taking the name of Sister Mary Veronica of the Passion of Jesus.Being sent to India in 1861, she fell on her knees on onreaching its shores and kissed the ground of the country, full of zeal to being her work among its people.
